Chris celebrates a lifetime in precision engineering with Shipham Valves
Congratulations to Chris Robinson on his remarkable 40th year anniversary with Shipham Valves!
It’s a significant milestone that reflects a lifetime of dedication, commitment, and expertise to the business and in the field of engineering.
It all started in 1983
Chris originally joined the business in 1983 as an apprentice spending time in various departments to hone his fitting, assembly, milling and drilling skills, develop his experience and successfully complete the EITB qualification.
Chris’ initial role with the business was as a CNC machinist, where he spent over seven years learning and developing his machining skills. The opportunity arose to work within the toolmaking department, which Chris eagerly embraced. During his tenure, he has also worked with the product training division.
Chris’s proficiency in welding, use of hand tools, blueprint reading, and precision measurement have contributed to Shipham Valves’ commitment to delivering excellent machining finishes and producing high-quality valves.
Engineering has evolved
With his wealth of knowledge and experience within engineering, it is fascinating to hear Chris’s views and insights on how the industry has evolved during his time. He highlights a few factors such as automation, modern machining centres and the increased use of specialist material options such as Super Duplex and Titanium as changes he has witnessed.
Chris is keen to stress that Shipham’s has always strived to deliver excellent machining finishes and produce the highest-quality valves that deliver proven performance. He feels there is great potential for the business to develop and grow as the business transformation continues.
Helping to mentor the next generation of toolmakers and machinists
It’s heartening to see Chris actively involved in mentoring our next generation of apprentices. Two of our apprentices are now working closely and benefiting from Chris’s vast insights, experience and expertise as they develop engineering careers with Shipham Valves.
