The Floating Ball Valves

Ball valves are isolation valves used to direct or control fluid flow. Floating ball valves are a type of ball valve where the ball is designed to ‘float’ between the upstream and downstream seats of the valve and are commonly used in pipeline systems. These ball valves are typically available from ½” to 8” and across the low to moderate pressure classes.

Shipham Valves’ range of floating ball valves is available in various materials to suit a wide variety of challenging applications.

Learn More About The Floating Ball Valve

Components of a Floating Ball Valve

The floating ball valve consists of various components such as the body, ball, stem, seats, end connections and the operator.

Configurations

Shipham Valves offers a wide range of floating ball valve designs – these designs contain features which have evolved to provide the best possible valve solution for the applications they are used for.

BA01 - Floating Ball Valve

One-Piece, Reduced Bore, Designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D.

The one-piece design is typically used in applications where the fluid inside the valve is considered to be hazardous; with the packing being the only leak path from inside the valve to the atmosphere. This greatly reduces the chances of any leakage from the valve during service.

This valve is available with flanged connections only.

BA02 - Floating Ball Valve

Two-Piece, Full Bore, designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D

The two-piece full-bore design is typically considered a standard industrial ball valve design. With the provision of a full bore, the pressure drop across this valve is kept to a minimum whilst the bolted connection between the body and the connector components allows for easy maintenance.

This valve is available with flanged connections only.

BA03 - Floating Ball Valve

Three-Piece, Full-Bore, designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D.

The three-piece design is often used where maintenance and upkeep are considerations. These valves are easy to assemble and maintain whilst delivering the highest levels of performance.

This valve is available with a wide range of connections including various threads, socket ends, flanges and instantaneous hose couplings.

Shipham Valves Floating Ball Valve Three Piece Full Bore Body

BA05 - Floating Ball Valve

Three-Piece, Reduced-Bore, designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D.

The three-piece design is often used where maintenance and upkeep are considerations. These valves are easy to assemble and maintain whilst delivering the highest levels of performance.

This valve is available with a wide range of connections including various threads, socket ends, flanges and instantaneous hose couplings.

Floating Ball Valve - BA05 Three Piece Reduced Bore Available in 1/2" - 6" sizes

BA07 - Floating Ball Valve

One-Piece, Reduced-Bore Barstock, designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D.

This barstock valve is manufactured in smaller sizes with all parts being made from bar. These robust valves are typically used in high-pressure applications.

This valve is available only with threaded ends.

Floating Ball Valve - BU07 One Piece Reduced Bore Body Style

BA08 - Floating Ball Valve

Two-Piece, Reduced-Bore, designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D

The two-piece full-bore design is typically considered a standard industrial ball valve design. With the provision of a full bore, the pressure drop across this valve is kept to a minimum whilst the bolted connection between the body and the connector components allows for easy maintenance.

This valve is available with flanged connections only.

Shipham Valves Two-Piece Floating Ball Valve with reduced bore - BA08

BA12 - Floating Ball Valve

Two-Piece, Reduced-Bore Barstock, designed in accordance with BS EN ISO 17292, API 608 and API 6D.

This barstock valve is manufactured in smaller sizes with all parts manufactured from bar. These robust valves are typically used in high-pressure applications.

This valve is available only with threaded ends.

Features

The Floating Ball Valve product range includes several features which reflect Shipham Valves’ technical expertise in valve design and unparalleled understanding of user needs and market knowledge.

These features have been developed to satisfy several customer requirements across a diverse range of industries.

Solid Ball

All floating ball valves are supplied with a solid ball in accordance with most end-user specifications. The solid ball allows for the specification of corrosion-resistant materials such as Hastelloy® which have a lower strength than more commonly used materials. In contrast to hollow balls, a solid ball does not contain cavities for fluid to circulate in. This ensures that there are no stagnant pockets in the flow through the valve.

Anti-Blowout Stem

All stems on floating ball valves contain an anti-blowout design. They are all entered into the valve body through the central bore of the valve. This ensures there is no possibility of the stem ejecting from the top of the valve when it is in service.

Materials of Construction

Ball valves are designed to be manufactured in a wide range of materials to allow the product to be supplied to meet a variety of applications and industries. These materials of construction extend to lower-strength corrosion-resistant alloys which are commonly omitted from product ranges.
